Christmas and Names

Posted on Dec 21, 2021

When your parents picked out your name, did they choose it to honor someone? Did they choose it because it sounded pretty or masculine. Maybe they looked in a book to see what peoples names meant, and chose one hoping that you would have that quality. I doubt that on the day you were born very many names given to you prior to birth were applicable. Probably you nor they would not know for long time, if ever, if that name bestowed is realized.

Before Jesus was born, many names were already bestowed on him. At birth some were realized, others came throughout His life and some were not given to Him until after His death and a few have yet to be realized.

Many call Him a ‘Babe’, Baby, or baby Jesus, especially as they look at a nativity scene or watch a performance. For me at this time of year, three names Jesus have significant meaning to me.

      1. Emmanuel – God with Us
      2. Wonderful – For everything He does and will do
      3. Savior – Only He can and could bring about my and everyone’s forgiveness.

There are over 100 names for Jesus in the Bible. Follow this link to see them all.

All of these names are powerful promises from God and we know that God can not lie. Many of these names are a puzzlement and a seemingly unobtainable goal for the world. Yet they are comforting words from God to those that know Christ.

He was with God in the beginning and He created everything; ‘Alpha’ and ‘Creator’. He came here to dwell among us and show us the way to eternal life; ‘Immanuel’ and ‘Counselor’. He died in our place and when the time is right, will stand with those that choose Him; ‘Lamb of God’ and ‘Advocate’. No one will get to God, except through Him; ‘The Way’. And He will reign forever; ‘Omega’.

What do you call Him? Myth, stranger or maybe enemy? Don’t know what to call Him? Wouldn’t you rather know Him as Friend, Redeemer or Faithful? One day, everyone will kneel before Him, and the goats that didn’t accept Him (notice He didn’t reject them, they didn’t accept Him) will be sent off to Hell and to those that call Him Lord and Master, He will invite into heaven to spend eternity with Him.

Why don’t you call Him Lord and Savior if you don’t already?

From my family,

well I guess just form me,

Merry Christmas and may God bless you!
