This page is dedicated to 3D films, as well as others that I consider really special. Most are on Blu-Ray 3D and require a special player (A 3D one) and a special TV (Yep, a 3D one). As an alternative, a 3D projector can be used and shone onto a white back drop (in reality you can shine it on any back drop you want but it isn't going to work well.
In my home I have 3D theater system that includes a surround sound system, a 3D player and a passive TV. I also have an active 3D projection system that I use for portability purposes.
Active 3D systems require electronic glasses that rapidly alternate turning each eye on and off to create the 3D illusion. A passive 3D systems requires special glasses that doesn't require any electronics.
I also have a small collection of the old style red/blue 3D movies. These are generally on DVD only require the goofy looking red/blue glasses and does not require any special TV or projector to utilize.
Though most 3D TV;s and some Blu-Ray players have the ability to convert to 3D on the fly, the 3D illusion is not as good as if the video was actually presented in 3D.
More about 3D coming soon.

My cousin’s daughter brought to my attention a defect in my categorization of the 3D movies. She stated that Captain America should come before Amazing SpiderMan.
Do I have egg on my face or what? My Waverly elementary education taught me that adjectives go in front of the rest. So I thought Amazing, being an adjective, should be first.
However, her higher degree of education (is it possible that she is educated beyond her ability) states differently and that I should instead categorize the movies by the degree of hotness of the main characters.
I can see this creating a lot of hard feelings among my male friends, so please let me apologize in advance. I will do my best to be non-biased when ranking the movies.
I could use a little though. I need to know which is hotter, Chewbacca or the Hulk? Choosing between IronMan or Thor, the answer is obviously Jim Carrey. And for television, do I go with Jaleel White (Steve Erkel) or Joseph Gordon-Levitt? And do I rate them on their appearances now or when they were a younger, dreamer individual? And where exactly does Jim Worrell (the "Hey Vern" guy) fit in? Sure near the top but a little clarification would be nice.
Come back and see if you agree with my categorization choices. And thanks Aricka, for bring this to my attention. In the mean time, I’ll leave the movies in a mostly alphabetized (not my preferred method but it’ll do) manner.

300:
Rise of an Empire
Not for the squeamish or the young. Brief nudity. Lots of blood and guts and good wholesome violence. Can’t say the acting or story line was terrific but the 3D and gore made the movie fun.
Abraham Lincoln:
Vampire Killer
Somehow, I missed this when it aired on Svengoolie, but my brother Randy didn't. He said it actually had a good plot and story line and a twist at the end. Even though it is available in 3D, I would have passed thinking it was to stupid even for my taste's based on the title; I haven't watched it yet so it may still hold true.
Alice in Wonderland
I was never a fan of Alice in Wonderland. This rendition did nothing to change my mind about what I thought about the story line.
It doe have Johnny Depp in it. He’s pretty weird in real life but he is a good actor. Think Pirates of the Caribbean and Edward Scissorhands (a good weird movie that stars a good weird actor).
The ‘Queen’ was pretty funny in the movie but I’m afraid that she was about the only that appealed to me. This ‘Alice’ was produced by Jim Burton so if your a fan of his work, it is worth watching. The 3D was so-so as well so it wasn't even a draw. All in all, I think there are more entertaining movies out there. However, if your an ‘Alice’ fan, with all it’s flavors, then this probably should be on your watch sometime list.
Back to the Jurassic
A cute family, geared towards girls and young boys, with small evolutionary undertones.
Not the best 3D around but not bad.
Beauty and the Beast
Animated
This was a classic and well done animated movie when it was released back in November of 1991. Later it was rereleased in 3D format in 2011 (as best I could tell). The same great movie done very well in 3D (unlike the Little Mermaid).
It’s a Roger highly recommends movie.
**I’m fast becoming disillusioned with Disney, one of the best attractions at Disney was the Beauty and the Beast interactive thing that LeeAnne and I went to. LeeAnne at the time was enamored with the movie, and more specifically Belle. It was really cool to look on LeeAnne as I was chosen to be a part of the ‘play’. If you, or I, ever see her again, ask her about it. I hope she remembers.
Beauty and the Beast
Live Actors
Another live actor remake of a classic Disney movie. I’m not a Emma Watson fan, and if she did actually sing the lyrics, didn’t do a good job lip syncing in the movie; nor is she nearly as pretty as the Belle in the animated version.
I haven’t watched the whole movie yet (waiting to do so with LeeAnne or another special someone) but the cinematography that I saw, along with the sets and special effects were fantastic!
I’m pretty sure the story line and songs are exactly as in the animated version, but that’s OK, though I wish they would have used some poetic license to make it a little less predictable. The 3D is terrific.
This is a Roger highly recommends family movie and an especially good one for a father/daughter night!
Bob's Big Break
I haven't watched this yet but it looks like a fun red/blue glasses video for the kids.
Born to be Wild
Mom, Dad and I watched this the other day. It was an OK documentary. 3D wasn't very good. if you like nature documentaries about rescued wild animals, then it's worth a watch. I don't think viewing it in 3D is a big plus.
Cars 2
Fun family movie based on the original Disney Cars movie. The 3D looks very good.
**Here’s an idea** Make a block party drive in with this movie and have all the attendees make card board boxes to look like cars that they can hang around themselves and sit in during the movie.
I haven’t watched the whole movie but it looks to be a Roger recommends one.
Cars 3
Fun family movie based on the original Disney Cars movie. The 3D looks very good.
**Here’s an idea** Make a block party drive in with this movie and have all the attendees make card board boxes to look like cars that they can hang around themselves and sit in during the movie.
I haven’t watched the whole movie but it looks to be a Roger recommends one.
Cats and Dogs:
Revenge of Kitty Galore
It is surprising how well the 3D is from 2010. In fact, it often rivals what is released today.
This movie is kind of an animal James Bond type of thing. You can see and understand a lot of 007 tie ins to Octopussy in it.
It primarily uses live actors and animals. The 3D and special effects are terrific and a plot full of action and laughs for the whole family.
A Roger recommends film.
Clash of the Titans
Pretty good story and acting. 3D effects are very good. Mild language and no nudity.
A Roger recommends.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Acting was so-so. Story line, special effects and 3D was terrific.
A Roger recommends.
Despicable Me 2
Animated movie that is clean and funny for youth and adult alike. The Minions are hilarious.
Good plot, lots of laughs, great 3D.
Dino King
A program with mild evolutionary undertones besides the usual millions of years, etc. For instance it uses the ill conceived notion that birds come from dinosaurs and thus because of the this relation, dinosaurs hunt in packs. Even if birds did come dinosaurs, there is no evidence at all as to how any dinosaur would have hunted or interacted with it’s family group. Purely made up. As the narrator is a child in the movie, it does help with the plot though.
Most dinosaur modeling and movements are done very well. The 3D is very good. The evolution stuff isn't terribly strong so there isn’t a lot of parental or teacher correction needed in this. There s however, mild animated violence as the dinosaurs do hunt and kill. The kills don’t occur often and are not bloody and gory (I was a little disappointed) so shouldn’t be to scary or frightening for children.
Some parental oversight is needed to insure that it isn’t shown to anyone to young.
Dinosaurs Alive!
I haven’t watched it all yet but as per all IMAX documentary movies, it has evolutionary overtones to it. This isn’t all bad though. When properly guided, movies with some evolution built in allows parents or teachers to talk about the difference between science, science theory and opinion. It also allows for the comparison of evolutionary ideas to that of Biblical fact. I would recommend this movie as part of a creation/evolution class or as part of a Bible study (any age) or as part of a youth outing.
The language is clean with good dinosaur modeling and movement. The 3D is very good.
Doctor Who:
Dark Water/Death in Heaven
It’s Dr Who and I don't really get Dr Who. A friend tried to explain it to me and it did help but…..
This movie however, is a good movie and if toy not a Dr. Who fan, you can just forgo that it is a Dr Who and just enjoy it as a movie and you’ll discover that it is a good movie.
There is some references to past Dr who stuff (episodes, plots, timelines; I’m not sure how to describe them) and I caught some which was cool. But I don't think that not knowing them would leave anyone lost. What little I’ve watched Dr who, most of the Dr Who’s as well as his assistants, are good actors. This Dr who is also a mediocre actor. His assistant and the bad person, are very good actors though.
No nudity, adult situations or language.
A great plot, very good graphics and special effects (and consider it wasn’t a a large scale theatrical release) and the 3D was pretty good.
A Roger Recommends family movie even if you’re not a Dr Who fan.
Dolphins and Whales:
Tribes of the Ocean
As with most IMAX documentaries, this has evolutionary and gotta go green/Global Warming undertones, if not out right indoctrination of those ideas. However, since it wasn’t unexpected I wasn’t to overwhelmed by it all.
The parts that aren’t theory and one world agenda, that being of the decline of the dolphin and whale population due to man’s interference via hunting, is likely true and a sad story.
Ignore the evolutionary dogma and that man is the worst thing to have happened to earth (true but not for the reasons they typically identify) and you’ll have a family worthy feature that teaches of the lives of dolphins and whales. The 3D is very good and sometimes hurtful.
Dolphin Tale
A good family movie though more slanted to older girls through middle to high school. No bad language and good 3D.
Drive Angry
A bastion of good family fun; NOT! Who would have thought that a Nicolaus Cage movie would be anything other? Certainly not after one of the greatest movies in the world, "Raising Arizona".
I didn't expect the movie to be a family trendily movie but thought it to be good for action and 3D. It didn't disappoint in those areas. However the language, including a very frequent use of the F word and nudity, which isn't usually done in 3D for obvious reasons I guess, was very prevalent.
Unfortunately, even though the plot was good, and the blood and gore coupled with the outstanding 3D, I have to advise everyone to pass on this movie.
Enchanted Kingdom
Mom, Dad and I watched this the other day. It is a nature documentary. Beautiful pictures, entertaining and very, very good 3D.
Exodus:
Gods and Kings
Don't let the title fool you. This is not a Christian film. Is is loosely based on leading up to the Israelite exodus from Egypt and uses some of the same character names from the Bible, but that's pretty much the only similarity between the film and the actual Biblical account there is.
If you can overlook that and just watch this as a stand alone movie, then you'll find that the writing, acting, cinematography as well as the 3D is quite good.
