The Hunts and Camps

This page was previously known as the " My Precious' "page. Certainly, the camping and hunts were my precious, something else (rather someone else) was.
Records of some of the Camping, Hunting trips and Hunting Kamps. See everyone growing old!
I've pretty much got the years set up for all of the Deer Kamps we have had that I have pictures for.

Deer Kamp 2020 has come and gone.
This Deer Kamp could have been nicknamed 'Geriatric Kamp 2020". I started the week with a lower back pains and spasms and finished up with the usual headache. Rusty W wasn't able to make camp at all due to leg and knee problems. Though it didn't affect his camp, Scott missed some work due to back/rib problems while Ronnie's foot was giving him problems. I guess we are starting to show our ages. Dad (Vernon W) didn't make an appearance like he normally does as he didn't want to get to far from Mom as she isn't doing very well.
This was a pretty unusual camp for us. The November weather was quite warm with daytime temps approaching 80. Pretty warm for hunting bringing meat in out of the woods; fortunately, we don't normally do much of that during deer kamp. However, we didn't burn as much wood as normal and we didn't have to sit in virtually each others lap. Shorts even became the apparel for some at camp.
Despite the Covid-19 virus, we had a great time as usual. I wasn't quite as chipper as I normally am as I was hoping that LeeAnne W would respond to my attempts at conservations or at least make contact with me in some way.
And as expected, the company was good, the food was excellent and the hunting might even have been better than normal. I'm already looking forward to Deer Kamp 2021; hopefully without he virus.
** Note ** I photoshopped Sam B into the picture as he stalkin' the big one (or snoozing a big one) when the majority of the group was available to get the group picture. Hope the picture is satisfactory Sam.

*Note* Please excuse my excessive long hair. I was growing it out for the Locks-of-Love foundation. They take hair and make wigs for people who have lost theirs due to cancer. The beard is just to help to complete my woolliness ensemble and not my usual look.
Deer Kamp 2021
Another unusual Deer Kamp this year. The weather was good and normal for November, making for sitting around the fire and socializing quite nice. However, my Mom had taken a turn for the worse several weeks before Kamp requiring several hospital ER visits and finally over Deer Kamp, requiring a stay in a rehab facility. Also, my Aunt and Uncle haven't been doing well and my Uncle also needed a stay into a rehab center. So some of the crew of Deer Kamp were in and out of camp visiting family. Rusty was only able to stay from Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning. Also, a man was taken out by Covid, as Sam came down with it the day before he was to head out.
Justin got a deer Friday morning. It was a bad morning for him as he couldn't find the tree he wanted and then after climbing a tree, realized that his bow didn't stay tied to his climber. He eventually got settled in and his buck came by a short time later. I was hunting with him when he shot it and I heard his bow shoot. I was blessed to be able to participate in the tracing with him as he still has that kid-at-Easter enthusiasm. Thanks for letting me join in Justin.
New to camp was Kevin N from North Carolina with his Ney York City accent (he didn't have a NY accent but a heavy Southern accent). When someone asked where he was from we would jokingly say, "from New York, can't you tell by the accent?"
Deer Kamp 2021 is in the books. It will be nice to be able to get a full compliment once again in the near future, complete with Marvin W and Sam B and possibly add in some new friends.
** Note ** There was no time other than after dark that the whole group was together for a Kamp picture. So I took the main group picture and PhotoShopped in Justin and his buck to make a complete compliment of the attendees.
The Turkee Kamps are sorely lacking at the moment. But I'll eventually get them in.

2nd Once In A Lifetime Elk Hunt
I don't seem to find any pictures which I know isn't right. Check back later to see if the pictures are here.
I know we went because this is when we camped all the way to the very top of the mountain and had the terrific overlook into the next Game Management Unit and valley. I'm sure I'll find them. Besides Levi M, Scott M, Mike D and myself, this trip also featured Marvin W and Sam B.
There are actually 5 Once-In-A-Lifetime Elk hunts to put in here. Though I have pictures from them all, I just haven't taken the time to make up the pages. Stay tuned.

Once-In-A-Lifetime Elk Hunt 2019
There was no Once In A Lifetime Elk Hunt this year. We decided to give the Elk a break.
