3D Movies, M - P

This page is dedicated to 3D films, as well as others that I consider really special. Most are on Blu-Ray 3D and require a special player (A 3D one) and a special TV (Yep, a 3D one). As an alternative, a 3D projector can be used and shone onto a white back drop (in reality you can shine it on any back drop you want but it isn't going to work well.
In my home I have 3D theater system that includes a surround sound system, a 3D player and a passive TV. I also have an active 3D projection system that I use for portability purposes.
Active 3D systems require electronic glasses that rapidly alternate turning each eye on and off to create the 3D illusion. A passive 3D systems requires special glasses that doesn't require any electronics.
I also have a small collection of the old style red/blue 3D movies. These are generally on DVD only require the goofy looking red/blue glasses and does not require any special TV or projector to utilize.
Though most 3D TV;s and some Blu-Ray players have the ability to convert to 3D on the fly, the 3D illusion is not as good as if the video was actually presented in 3D.
More about 3D coming soon.

My cousin’s daughter brought to my attention a defect in my categorization of the 3D movies. She stated that Captain America should come before Amazing SpiderMan.
Do I have egg on my face or what? My Waverly elementary education taught me that adjectives go in front of the rest. So I thought Amazing, being an adjective, should be first.
However, her higher degree of education (is it possible that she is educated beyond her ability) states differently and that I should instead categorize the movies by the degree of hotness of the main characters.
I can see this creating a lot of hard feelings among my male friends, so please let me apologize in advance. I will do my best to be non-biased when ranking the movies.
I could use a little though. I need to know which is hotter, Chewbacca or the Hulk? Choosing between IronMan or Thor, the answer is obviously Jim Carrey. And for television, do I go with Jaleel White (Steve Erkel) or Joseph Gordon-Levitt? And do I rate them on their appearances now or when they were a younger, dreamer individual? And where exactly does Jim Worrell (the "Hey Vern" guy) fit in? Sure near the top but a little clarification would be nice.
Come back and see if you agree with my categorization choices. And thanks Aricka, for bring this to my attention. In the mean time, I’ll leave the movies in a mostly alphabetized (not my preferred method but it’ll do) manner.

The Martian
Good story and acing. Cinematography was good but the 3D is only OK. Some language, most of which is acceptable as it was used where most people would have actually used them. Naked butt from behind if you consider that nudity.
A Roger likes.
Megamind
Great story and animation and very funny. No language or adult themes. Pretty good 3D.
A Roger recommends family movie.
Men in Black 3
Fantastic story, great acting, wonderful special effects and superb 3D. Some language but no nudity or adult situations.
A Roger recommends and a must see.
Minions
Those cute, unintelligible (I’m sure it is a real word) yet easy to understand what they are saying, yellow things from the Despicable Me series. This movie gives their origins.
Great laughs, good plot, lots of fun and very good 3D.
A Roger recommended family movie.
Monster House
Fun plot with kid voice overs using kids that couldn’t act either. Could be a little scary to young children.
No bad language, lots of action and fairly good 3D.
Monsters, Inc
An oldie but goodie and in 3D.
It’s the exact same movie we saw when it was released back in Nov 2001 and when we watched it on VHS there after. Funny, Good plot and the 3D is very good.
A great family movie and Roger recommended.
Monsters University
This movie was made after Monsters, Inc but is ready a prelude to it. It stays true to the original movie and has a great story line and is very funny. Very good 3D. No bad language or adult situations.
A Roger recommends family movie.
Pacific Rim
Stupid story line, terrible acting, great special effects and pretty good 3D.
Piranha 3D
Let's just say that despite some really cool 3D, that this movie isn't at all family friendly. In fact, I would debate if it is even friend friendly. Language and nudity abound. And the plot is as stupid as you ight think. Only keeping it if I have need to show some really good 3D and wish to chance showing others other things while trying to.
A Roger doesn't recommend this to anyone.
Piranha 3DD
A follow up to Piranha 3D.
Pirates:
Band of Misfits
No language or adult situations but has a story and humor for a little older children and adults. The style of animation is one that is not smooth so it never looks ‘right’ to me. The 3D was pretty good.
An OK movie in my opinion.
Prometheus
The sets and special effects are top notch. The plot is flimsy and the beleavability is non-existent. There is a loose tie in to the Alien franchise, which is kinda cool. Adult language and adult situations. The 3D is very good.
I have watched this movie twice, once years ago and in 2D and didn’t get it. After purchasing it on the cheap in 3D, I watched it again thinking that it may have just been a deeper movie that would require one to pay more attention to it; after watching it the second time, I still didn’t get it.
Aside from the great 3D, special effects and sets, I can’t really recommend this movie.
