3D Movies, Q - Z

This page is dedicated to 3D films, as well as others that I consider really special. Most are on Blu-Ray 3D and require a special player (A 3D one) and a special TV (Yep, a 3D one). As an alternative, a 3D projector can be used and shone onto a white back drop (in reality you can shine it on any back drop you want but it isn't going to work well.
In my home I have 3D theater system that includes a surround sound system, a 3D player and a passive TV. I also have an active 3D projection system that I use for portability purposes.
Active 3D systems require electronic glasses that rapidly alternate turning each eye on and off to create the 3D illusion. A passive 3D systems requires special glasses that doesn't require any electronics.
I also have a small collection of the old style red/blue 3D movies. These are generally on DVD only require the goofy looking red/blue glasses and does not require any special TV or projector to utilize.
Though most 3D TV;s and some Blu-Ray players have the ability to convert to 3D on the fly, the 3D illusion is not as good as if the video was actually presented in 3D.
More about 3D coming soon.

My cousin’s daughter brought to my attention a defect in my categorization of the 3D movies. She stated that Captain America should come before Amazing SpiderMan.
Do I have egg on my face or what? My Waverly elementary education taught me that adjectives go in front of the rest. So I thought Amazing, being an adjective, should be first.
However, her higher degree of education (is it possible that she is educated beyond her ability) states differently and that I should instead categorize the movies by the degree of hotness of the main characters.
I can see this creating a lot of hard feelings among my male friends, so please let me apologize in advance. I will do my best to be non-biased when ranking the movies.
I could use a little though. I need to know which is hotter, Chewbacca or the Hulk? Choosing between IronMan or Thor, the answer is obviously Jim Carrey. And for television, do I go with Jaleel White (Steve Erkel) or Joseph Gordon-Levitt? And do I rate them on their appearances now or when they were a younger, dreamer individual? And where exactly does Jim Worrell (the "Hey Vern" guy) fit in? Sure near the top but a little clarification would be nice.
Come back and see if you agree with my categorization choices. And thanks Aricka, for bring this to my attention. In the mean time, I’ll leave the movies in a mostly alphabetized (not my preferred method but it’ll do) manner.

Rest in Peace Department
I remember seeing the previews on TV for this movie and I thought it and the premise was really stupid. However, when I saw it at the used movie store in 3D I bought it because it was in 3D. When I watched it I discovered how funny and well written the story was
No adult situations or language that I recall but there was some language. The acting was great and the 3D was very good.
A Roger recommends.
Saw:
The Final Chapter
Really stupid but fun story line. Terrible acting. Average 3D with plenty of the usual silly in your face effects. Lots of gratuitous violence and over the top bloody effects
Plenty of unnecessary bad language but no nudity.
Not a recommended movie.
Shrek:
The Complete Collection
4 Shrek movies and all in 3D. Very funny, good story's and great 3D. No bad bad language or adult situations.
A Roger recommends family movie.
Sin City:
A Dame to Die For
A small amount of nudity and whole bunch of adult situations and bad language. It does have one of the most unique cinemaphotography I've ever seen. It does have a very good and unique plot and contains a copious amount of name actors; which may explain the bad language.
The sets, acting, plot action, special effects and 3D are second to none. It's a shame that they didn't feel they could do this movie for a PG audience.
Unfortunately, I can not recommend this movie except for special reasons, such as to show the 3D or the cinemaphotography.
Solo:
A Star Wars Story
Though not really a Star Wars movie, Solo was a fun movie. It was the last Star Wars movie, and the last movie period, that LeeAnne and I saw together. Only a few cases of mild language, which seems to be coming common place for Disney movies now days.
In true Disney Star Wars fashion, the acting was lack luster, as was the action and 3D. The sets and special effects were pretty good though. The plot was better than the three Star Wars movies that Disney put out though (Rogue One was certainly their best and maybe the best Star Wars movie period).
It's a Roger recommends movie.
S.O.S. Planet
A red/blue video that was originally released in IMAX. I haven't watched it yet.
Spy Kids:
All the Time in the World
Though it is pretty much a kids movie with child actors, this is really a very well written movie and lots of fun. The 3D in it is also very good.
A Roger recommends family movie.
Star Trek:
Beyond
Not a very fun Star Trek movie and the 3D is disappointing. In fact, the titles at the end are probably the best 3D of the movie.
Star Trek:
Into Darkness
Though a rewrite of Kawn from the original Star Trek series and the Second movie, this is OK for a story line. The special effects and 3D are very good.
Star Wars:
The Force Awakens
With bad plots, bad actors, and bad execution of the series after taking over Lucas Film, Disney has pretty much killed the Star Wars franchise. Concentrating on after theater sales instead of in theater story depth, has alienated true Star Wars fans and only kept a young audience entranced at the Star Wars universe until the next big thing (and not even a Star Wars or Disney thing) capture their attention. There is basically no Star Wars loyalty due to Disney's mishandling of it.
The special effects were pretty good though the 3D is dismal, even in the theaters.
But it's Star Wars and I'm always likely to be a fan despite what Disney does to it; I may just disavow the Disney films (except Rogue One).
Since they're Star Wars, I have to recommend them, but the Disney ones are not my first Star Wars recommendations.
Star Wars:
The Rise of Skywalker
With bad plots, bad actors, and bad execution of the series after taking over Lucas Film, Disney has pretty much killed the Star Wars franchise. Star Wars:
Rogue One
Despite what Disney has done to the Star Wars brand, Rogue One is great! A good plot, relatively good actors, great action and special effects and pretty good 3D.
I certainly recommend Rogue One as a must watch.
There are a couple of things I would have made different in the movie. Perhaps I'll share them one day; because I know you want to know what I think.
TAD:
The Lost Explorer
Predictable plot. Rushed story and acting (voice overs). Mild language (hell and crap was all I noticed).
However, I believe it to be fun, especially for young kids, and has very good 3D.
Terminator:
Genisys
A pretty good story line, pretty good acting (thankfully no child actors in this one) and excellent special effects and 3D.Some mild language but no nudity or adult situations.
A Roger recommends movie.
Top Gun
The original Top Gun was released in 1986. In 2012, they did a limited 6 day re-release in IMAX 3D and later, in 2013, released it in Blu-Ray 3D for home use. The 3D looks pretty good but it appears that Sony did not clean up the footage as at times it is kinda grainy. But it was a fun movie in 2D and the fun is increased in the 3D version. However, I wouldn't rate it as one of my better 3D movies. I guess the new computer renderings and special effects have spoiled me.
A Roger Recommends movie.
Tron:
Legacy
Pretty good story line and follow up to the original Tron. The acting isn’t really there. But the special effects and 3D are superb. Disney put the time and effort into this one.
A Roger recommends movie.
World War Z
Pretty much a stupid movie. Acting? Not really. Plot? Not really. Fun? Not really. 3D? OK but not great though it started out very good.
