Movies – 3D, Super Heros

This page is dedicated to 3D films, as well as others that I consider really special. Most are on Blu-Ray 3D and require a special player (A 3D one) and a special TV (Yep, a 3D one). As an alternative, a 3D projector can be used and shone onto a white back drop (in reality you can shine it on any back drop you want but it isn't going to work well.
In my home I have 3D theater system that includes a surround sound system, a 3D player and a passive TV. I also have an active 3D projection system that I use for portability purposes.
Active 3D systems require electronic glasses that rapidly alternate turning each eye on and off to create the 3D illusion. A passive 3D systems requires special glasses that doesn't require any electronics.
I also have a small collection of the old style red/blue 3D movies. These are generally on DVD only require the goofy looking red/blue glasses and does not require any special TV or projector to utilize.
Though most 3D TV;s and some Blu-Ray players have the ability to convert to 3D on the fly, the 3D illusion is not as good as if the video was actually presented in 3D.
More about 3D coming soon.

My cousin’s daughter brought to my attention a defect in my categorization of the 3D movies. She stated that Captain America should come before Amazing SpiderMan.
Do I have egg on my face or what? My Waverly elementary education taught me that adjectives go in front of the rest. So I thought Amazing, being an adjective, should be first.
However, her higher degree of education (is it possible that she is educated beyond her ability) states differently and that I should instead categorize the movies by the degree of hotness of the main characters.
I can see this creating a lot of hard feelings among my male friends, so please let me apologize in advance. I will do my best to be non-biased when ranking the movies.
I could use a little though. I need to know which is hotter, Chewbacca or the Hulk? Choosing between IronMan or Thor, the answer is obviously Jim Carrey. And for television, do I go with Jaleel White (Steve Erkel) or Joseph Gordon-Levitt? And do I rate them on their appearances now or when they were a younger, dreamer individual? And where exactly does Jim Worrell (the "Hey Vern" guy) fit in? Sure near the top but a little clarification would be nice.
Come back and see if you agree with my categorization choices. And thanks Aricka, for bring this to my attention. In the mean time, I’ll leave the movies in a mostly alphabetized (not my preferred method but it’ll do) manner.

Certainly not an exhaustive list of super heros, and not all 'super heros' are listed under each category, mainly because I don't like them or perhaps I don't feel they are a super hero.
One of my beefs about super hero movies is that each whenever a new director or new main actor/hero is introduced, the beginning of the movie spends considerable amounts of time showing where the hero hailed from or how they gained their power. Every Batman era, every Superman and most others do this. It isn't needed.
We know that Superman comes from krypton, Batman's parents are killed in front of him and he falls into a cave and eventually gets over the fear of bats from that event, etc. We don't need to see this every time. It generally doesn't add to the story and effort should be spent instead in story and plot writing for heros that nearly everyone already knows of their beginnings.
OK. Enough said. Enjoy the page.

Avengers
Good story, lots of fun, good acting, great special effects, very good 3D. Another fun Avenger movie.
Guardians of the Galaxy
vol1
If you’ve seen this in 2D form, it’s the same only lots, lots better in 3D.
A Roger Recommends.
Guardians of the Galaxy
vol2
If you’ve seen this in 2D form, it’s the same only lots, lots better in 3D.
A Roger Recommends.
IronMan 3
Like most Avengers, this was a fun movie with a good story line and acting. The 3D was good.
It's a Roger recommends.
SpiderMan
Far From Home

DC Comics
Many associate DC Comics with Super Heros. However, the start of DC Comics was actually Detective Comics. I guess everyday detectives were pretty boring and the later the DC brand would become known for it's Alien's, Mutants and the like.
Though there is technically a lot to the DC universe, I'm going to start around the rebootish period of 2013.I am not including the likes of the Watchmen, Jonah Hex (fun movie), The Dark Knight series (didn't like the Batman or the plots), Shazam (didn't like) Joker and Birds of Prey. I did really like the first two Timothy Burton Batman movies but the remaining ones were just so-so and even Michael Keaton's Batman are not in the same league as what I am calling the reboots, so I don't include them.
DC Universe Original Movie Release Date

Man of Steel - 2013
Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice - 2016
Suicide Squad - 2016

Aquaman - 2018
Wonder Woman 1984 - 2020
Aquaman
For many years, Aquaman has been one of the last liked Super Heros in the DC universe. On the Big Bang theory, the low guy on the totem pole or the one that looses abet has to be Aquaman while he rest of the group gets to be cool Super Heros.
But the DC Aquaman man movie changed that perception. They took a mediocre actor, Jason Momoa, and coupe him with several other good actors, added in a very good story line and super graphics and special effects and made a fantastic movie. Financially, it was one of the largest box office draws ever.
There was no nudity and no adult situations but did have some mild language. There was plenty of plot, even if some of it was predictable, and lots and lots of action. I had seen it in 2D but this is a very good 3D movie.
A Roger recommends.
Green Lantern
Green Lantern didn't do well in the theaters nor get high marks from Super Hero fans. I thought the film, plot wise, was OK and better than the ratings most gave it. I myself was never a Green Lantern fan as far as the comic is concerned.
I assume from the ratings that there won't be a second Green Lantern, and assume that Ryan Reynolds believes the same as he took the role of a different Super Hero, Deadpool.
This film had mild language, no nudity or adult situations and a pretty fair amount of action. The graphics and special effects were pretty good and the 3D was very nicely done.
Justice League
This is he original theatrical release. Not the best super hero movie but then again, none of the DC ones are, except Aquaman and Man of Steel. Not a great plot and the acting was only so-so. There was a lot of action though and the 3D was pretty good but not great.
Man of Steel
I’m not a big SuperMan fan (I did like the Smallville series though; well, except the last season), and though as they usually do, retell how SuperMan was sent from Krypton, this movie is great!
The 3D is superb and the effects in 3D awesome. When they beat each other up, pavement rolls up, walls crumble and all kinds of havoc is unleashed.
A Roger recommends.
Misc Super Heros
Green Hornet
With the exception of the explosions and gun shooting, which are great, the 3D is only so-so. The special effects through out the movie is good. Considering who's in it you don't expect much from the acting and you pretty much get what you expect. The main bad guy is a plus in the movie though.
Though there are some adult situations and innuendos, there is no nudity. And finally, despite the language, there is quite a bit of humor in the movie.
Over-all, a middle of the road movie.
Hercules
Dwayne Johnson stars in this movie. It isn’t exactly the Hercules your familiar with as he travels with his merry men (and a woman).
The story is good, acting fair, funny and pretty good 3D.
Transformers
There's not really a lot of plot and depth to the Transformers movies but they are cool in their special effects and sounds. The original Transformers movie had the best surround sound at the time and for the year or two following. But despite their lack of depth, the movies are fun and the 3D is incredible.

Transformers - 2007
Revenge of the Fallen - 2009
Dark of the Moon - 2011
Age of Extension - 2014
The Last Knight - 2017

Transformers:
Dark Side of the Moon
Really, all the Transformers movies are stupid. Not much plot, story depth nor acting.
But they kick butt in action, special effects, audio effects (especially on surround systems) and the 3D is about as good as I have seen.
Certainly worth a watch but not a Roger Recommends movie.

Days of Future Past
The X-Men series is not my favorite but I do like super hero movies. This one had a pretty good plot and fair acting. The action, special effects and 3D was very good though.
It's not a Roger recommends movie but worth a watch.
